Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand. It is where Government can be found and where there is a strong cultural emphasis. By international standards, Wellington is a small city. However, for its size (around 500,000 people in the region) it has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with a vibrant inner city and strong sense of community.
The city council is very active and has positioned Wellington as the events and cultural capital of New Zealand.
It is also the home of our film industry where famous director Peter Jackson (including films such as Lord of the Rings, King Kong and soon to be released Lovely Bones) makes his home.

_ A major benefit of Wellington is it is not spread out.
Rather it is condensed making travel around the city very easy. From the Northern and Eastern suburbs of the city, there is a good train
and bus service. From the Southern and Western suburbs, there is a good bus service.
